In the 1990s, a severe economic downturncaused mass emigration from Colombia.
In 2002, Zadid and Jorge came to Canada with their young family, just before visa requirements for Latin Americans became more restrictive.
They never imagined how long it would be before theywould see Colombia and their families again.

Although Zadid works full time in the financial industry,she is also an artist in her own right.
Today, Jorge is a well-respected tattoo artist who travels widelyto tattoo conventions on several continents.
Art Ink Collective specializes in tattoos, piercings and custom design shirts.
Emboldened by the security of permanent residency, Zadid and Jorge werefinally ready to take the plunge and open their own business in 2010.
For years Jorge gained experience working for others.
Initially self-taught, Jorge was invited to stay with family in Austin, Texas,where he spent a year apprenticing at a local parlour.
Jorge developed his passion for tattooing while he was a university studentin Colombia. His early “clients” were friends and family.
